Jim Gill is a musician and author with unique credentials among children’s artists. Jim is a child development specialist, having completed his graduate studies in child development at the Erikson Institute of Chicago with a special emphasis on the study of play. For this reason, each of Jim’s recordings and books is created as an opportunity for playful interactions between a child and a caring adult.
Jim has won acclaim for bringing the same emphasis on family play to his live concerts. Anyone who has ever attended one of Jim’s family concerts knows that rather than performing for the children and parents, Jim leads them to sing and playtogether.
I was one of the lucky bloggers to receive an advanced copy of his latest release, Music Play for Folks of All Stripes. The CD features 15 new songs along with games, dances, play and for the first time, a DVD of music videos! It was so much fun and so fresh to have it on the other evening as I scrambled to make dinner and get my son ready for bed.
As a Chicago treasure, he was recently interviewed by Fred Koch, Music Reviewer for Chicago Parent Magazine and was quoted as saying, "The challenge I continually face is how to convey in words something that is musical. Nothing says it better than the music itself. Words are insufficient. The best I can do is to try to convince you that your children need a healthy, age-appropriate musical diet. They need creative, thought-provoking, movement-inspiring, engaging music play experiences. And no one, I said no one, does it better than Jim Gill. Forget about passively feeding them Mozart. Nurture all their intelligences.Start with "Music Play For Folks of All Stripes." You can thank me later."
